Punjab Declares Nine-Day Eidul Fitr Holidays for Schools Across the Province

The Punjab government has officially announced a nine-day holiday for all public and private schools in celebration of Eidul Fitr. The break will start on March 28 and extend until April 7, allowing students and teachers to enjoy the festivities before the academic calendar resumes.

Holiday Schedule and School Reopening

According to Punjab’s Minister for Education, both government and private institutions will follow the same holiday schedule. Secretary of Schools, Khalid Wattoo, confirmed that the schools will reopen on April 7, and in the meantime, annual results will be announced on April 4.

The decision aligns with forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, which predicts that Eidul Fitr will likely fall on Monday, March 31. The extended holiday period gives students and faculty ample time to celebrate the festival with their families.

Federal Government’s Eidul Fitr Holiday Announcement

Before Punjab’s declaration, the federal government had already issued a notification regarding public holidays for Eidul Fitr. As per the Cabinet Division’s announcement, public holidays will be observed from March 31 (Monday) to April 2 (Wednesday) nationwide. However, Punjab’s extended break for educational institutions provides additional days off for students.

Sindh Government’s Measures to Prevent Fare Overcharging

In contrast to Punjab’s announcement, the Sindh government has taken a different approach to the Eid holiday season by ensuring transport services remain under strict regulation. To prevent overcharging by transporters, the Sindh Transport Department has cancelled the holidays of all officers and staff, ensuring they remain on duty to monitor and regulate fare prices.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that authorities would take strict action against violators, urging the public to report any unfair fare increases. This move aims to protect travelers from excessive ticket prices, a common issue during holiday seasons.

Conclusion

The Punjab government’s decision to grant nine days off for schools offers much-needed relief to students and teachers during the Eidul Fitr celebrations. While other provinces focus on transportation regulations and shorter breaks, Punjab’s extended holidays ensure that families can fully embrace the joyous occasion.
