Maryam Nawaz Launches Honhaar Scholarship to Support 30,000 Students in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the Honhaar Scholarship Stipend Program to support students from low-income families. This initiative is designed to help deserving students continue their higher education without worrying about financial problems.

The program received over 70,000 applications, out of which 30,000 students were selected through a transparent process. Among them, 18,000 are male and 12,000 are female students. This program shows the Punjab government’s strong commitment to education and equal opportunities for all.

What Does the Scholarship Include?

Students selected for the Honhaar Scholarship will get financial support to cover their college or university fees for four years. Instead of one-time payments, the funds will be given every semester in the form of checks. This approach ensures students can focus on their studies without financial stress.

During the official ceremony held at the University of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz personally handed out the checks to the selected students. She said the scholarship is more than just financial help—it’s a chance for students to build a better future. She encouraged students to use the money wisely, deposit it in their bank accounts, and pay their tuition fees on time.

Digital Help Through E-Portal

To make the scholarship process easier, the Punjab government is creating an online e-portal for students. This digital system will allow students to:

  • Check their payment status

  • Upload bank and academic details

  • Track their funds easily

This means students will no longer need to visit offices in person, saving both time and effort. The e-portal will help make the scholarship process faster, more organized, and transparent.

Special Focus on Girls’ Education

A major highlight of the Honhaar Scholarship is its special quota for female students. Maryam Nawaz announced that 60% of scholarships will go to girls. This step aims to empower women through education and give them the tools they need to succeed.

She said that when girls are educated, families, communities, and the whole country benefit. By supporting girls’ education, the government is working towards a more equal and progressive society.

Laptop Program for Digital Learning

Alongside the scholarship program, Maryam Nawaz also introduced the Chief Minister Laptop Program. Under this scheme, 40,000 laptops (13th Gen Core i7) will be given to university and college students across Punjab, including those in private institutions.

The registration for the laptop program will begin in January 2025, and laptops will be distributed by February 20, 2025. Students will need to upload their personal and educational details online to qualify.

A Step Toward a Brighter Future

The Honhaar Scholarship and Laptop Program are major steps toward building an educated, skilled, and tech-savvy generation. These initiatives are designed to reduce the financial burden on students and give them the tools they need to succeed in today’s world.

By supporting education, the Punjab government is investing in a better future—for students, families, and the entire province.
